The
first Maltfriscans were a group of punk rockers and some other young
people living in and around the town of Maltby in South Yorkshire (UK).
Touched by God's love and inspired by St. Francis of Assisi (hence the
name MALTby FRancISCANS - MaltFriscans, sometimes
shortened to 'Friscans), they wanted to "do something" in thanks for
God's love as revealed in Jesus Christ, the Saviour.
Initially
they had a weekly prayer meeting to praise and thank God for His love.
Later, a desire to follow and love Christ in more concrete ways resulted
in the writing of the Maltfriscan Rule by the local parish priest, Fr
May.
The
community has grown since then as more people have felt called to follow
Christ through living the Rule. The community do not all live under one
roof but are always united closely in spirit by our common calling and
obedience to the Maltfriscan Rule.
Without
doubt one of the greatest gifts the Maltfriscan Community is blessed
with is music. Members of the community have written song after song in
praise of God, in response to how God has spoken to them in their lives.
Many of the songs are available on
cassette, CD and in book form, find out more by following the music
